Staying in touch with folks from coast to coast. Alternatively, we could all move back home and take over a section of Rapid Valley. That would be fun too! In the meantime, post your stories and pictures here.

QuOTeD #1

Question of the Day! Remember that? Well, I'm bringing it back except this time instead of sticking a microhpone in your face (which I know you just love), you can comment on this blog. (Just click the comment link below.)

For the first question, we'll draw from current events.

Q: Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when Elvis died?

I was in the basement at home. Mom will have to verify this, but I think she was home too and I heard about it from her (I heard a shriek from upstairs). I want to say we were in Rapid Valley at the time, but my math isn't adding up. Were we still on base?

Oh, poor Elvis (sob). Dad and I watched a ton of specials on him last night. You know that is all fake that he was on drugs. Notice now, Priscilla and Lisa Marie never mention it anymore.
We lived on the base when he died. We had just moved to Ellsworth (Tracy and Ginger weren't even there yet, that I remember), and I saw a poster in the window at Kresge's and I couldn't imagine what it meant, that Elvis was actually coming to RC. So I called the civic center and they told me they had two seats left behind the stage of all places and so I took them, I didn't care where they were, and they turned out to be really great seats, very close to Elvis, and he kept turning around all the time so we had up close and personal looks at him. That was in June, and in August he was dead. I couldn't believe it, I had loved him since I was 16, still do. I asked Smitty last night if he liked Elvis back then when he was young, and he said he always did. I know my mom was a big Elvis fan, and she always said that Bailey never missed an Elvis movie. When he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in 1956 I was already living in California with Virginia and Albert, and got to see him for the first time on her tv. She had no idea who he was, but she sure found out in a hurry. He was the same age as my dad when he died, 42. I probably did shriek when he died, every time I see his face even today, I feel sad.

Hmmm….. I recall that Tracy and I were in RC when Elvis died. Perhaps we had just arrived. Like Becky, I remember being home and hearing commotion in the house when it was announced on TV. Recent stories I’ve read make me feel bad he didn’t have better people around him with his best interest at heart. I love Elvis’ music and movies. When I’m channel surfing I’ll always stop to take a look if he’s on. He has somewhat of a cult status here in HI due to his famous live concert in the 70s. They just erected a statue of him in Honolulu.

Didn't know he died--thought I seen him in WalMart yesterday!

I was not even a thought when he died...however I remember that picture of Elvis grandma had in the closet next to the bathroom. It might still be there...always thought that was a weird place to "hide" it.

I have to say that I don't have any recollection. Charles thinks he was at home and saw it on TV. I love Elvis. Just bought a greatest hits CD not long ago -- it is excellent.
