So tonight was my first night ever making halibut!!!! I tired looking online for recipes but everything was really complex, so I called Grandma for some fish cooking advice. She didn't know so she told me to call Aunt Tracy and Uncle Charles. Lucky for me, Aunt Tracy was still up and she told me to just kinda take info from the confusing recipes online and come up with something easy to do.
Kat's Halibut Recipe:
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
-Take the halibut steaks and wash them off and roll them in flour.
-Then take the steaks and cover with melted butter and then roll it in bread crumbs.
-Take some lemon juice and squeeze over the steaks when they're on the pan.
-Throw them in the oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, I flipped mine about half way though and then squeezed lemon on the other side of them.
I also experimented with Portabella Mushrooms:
-Wash and cut the mushrooms into half inch thick slices.
-Drop the slices in a bowl of oil or melted butter.
-Let the excess oil dip off and put them on a plate and sprinkle with onion salt, salt, and pepper.
-I baked the mushrooms in a brownie pan with the gills of the mushrooms facing up at 400 degrees for about 20 to 30 minutes.
We also made Roman lettuce salad:)
Derek said that it was better then his mom's halibut!!! It was my first time too!!! I was very proud of myself that I actually made a decent dinner :)
I highly recommend trying it :)
Let me know what you think!!!!!!

Staying in touch with folks from coast to coast. Alternatively, we could all move back home and take over a section of Rapid Valley. That would be fun too! In the meantime, post your stories and pictures here.

Sounds delicious. I will have to keep this recipe in mind for when I fix Halibut again.
I have been getting a chicken sandwich with Portabello mushrooms at Applebees. It is their weightwatcher special. It is not too bad. I have never fixed portabello mushrooms myself, so you are way ahead of me.
I will give this a try.
Better than his Mom's??? He could be headed for trouble!!!
Embarrassing Moment – When I worked at the Prairie restaurant in Vermillion in 1985 I didn’t know what Halibut was. On my first or second day a customer ordered it and I asked him how he would like it done (assuming it was some kind of steak). He looked at me like I was crazy. I never ever forgot Halibut was a fish after that. Ouch, that smarts!
I'm waiting for Charles or Dale to go back to Alaska and bring us all back some Halibut.
